What makes a sticker look like a sticker
Two things: a bold, simple design that reads at small size, and the classic white die-cut border that outlines the whole shape. Procreate gives you that border automatically with one layer trick — no tracing required.
1. Design the sticker art
On a square canvas with a transparent background, draw your sticker bold and clean. Keep shapes chunky and colors punchy so it works small. Stamp brushes are perfect for quick sticker motifs — grab some from the stamps category and see how to use stamp brushes. Keep the art on its own layer above transparency.
2. Add the white die-cut border (the trick)
Here's the classic method:
- Select your art layer's content: tap the layer → Select.
- Create a new layer below the art.
- Open Selection → Feather at 0, then grow the selection (use the Stroke/expand, or stamp around it) and fill it white on the lower layer.
The reliable Procreate way: with the art selected, on a layer beneath it, use a hard round brush or the fill to create a slightly larger white silhouette. Many artists duplicate the art layer, fill it solid white, blow it up a touch with Transform, and place it behind — instant uniform border.
3. Even the border width
For a consistent outline, the cleanest method is: select the art, expand the selection evenly, and fill white below. Keep the border a few pixels wider than the art all the way around. A slight drop shadow under the white adds the peel-able sticker look.
4. Make a sticker sheet
Duplicate finished stickers onto one canvas to build a sticker sheet. Keep each sticker (art + border) grouped so you can move it as a unit. Space them with small gaps for cutting. Use the layers panel to stay organized.
5. Export with transparency
Export as a PNG to keep the transparent background (never JPG — it flattens to white). For print-cut machines (Cricut, Silhouette) or print-on-demand, export at 300 DPI and check the platform's bleed and cut-line requirements. For messaging stickers (Telegram/WhatsApp), follow the app's pixel size and transparent-PNG rules.
6. Selling stickers
For Etsy, Redbubble or your own shop, provide crisp 300 DPI transparent PNGs and a clear preview. Bold, on-trend motifs sell best — and a cohesive sheet beats scattered singles. Build variations fast by recoloring stamps.
